Recommended Visits
Rod & Suzanne have had fun filled days out at the following attractions:

Portpatrick and the Mull of Galloway
A visit to the lighthouse on the Mull of Galloway and a walk down to the fog horn is a must. Great fun for all ages! (Beware! Parts of this visit has seasonal opening times.) Then onto Portpatrick via the fish pond at Port Logan. Ended the day watching the sun setting whilst sitting outside The Waterfront, along with refreshments, resulted in a most enjoyable trip!

Isle of Whithorn
A picnic on the beach at St Ninian’s Cave and then we followed the St Ninian’s trail to the Isle of Whithorn.
The Whithorn Story has been recommended to us, however, we will have to do this visit in the future. Watch this space or please tell us what you thought if you manage a visit. Thanks!

Threave Castle
Threave Castle at Castle Douglas included a lovely 10 minute walk through the country (there are bird hides sign posted on this walk) which directs you to the moat surrounding the castle. A short boat ride over to Threave Castle contributes to a fun day! A snack at the Bothy café by the car park (the homemade cakes are delicious!) is well recommended!

The Pit Stop Diner – Twynholm
We visited Twynholm on a ‘mixed weather day’ and had a delicious snack with friendly service.
The David Coulthard memorabilia museum was great fun. Being F1 fanatics it was exciting to stand next to the Red Bull car in which David won the Monaco 2002 F1 Grand Prix. Their website is here.

Stranraer to Belfast
We arose very early one morning on our holidays and took a trip to Ireland on the HSS Stena Line.
We chose the Giants Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge trip. We left Gatehouse-of-Fleet at 07:15 arriving at Stena’s free secure parking lot in Stranraer at 08:30 in plenty of time for check in time at 09:00.
The Stena HSS arrived in Belfast just before noon where we joined the Ulsterbus tour. The driver, Lawrence, made the day very special with his driving, commentary and tips for the day – the best places to eat and taste the Guinness!!
We arrived back in Gatehouse of Fleet at 2am the following morning and we both agreed the trip to Ireland was well worth the long day!
We did book this trip over the internet prior to our holiday but the following information may help during your stay at Galloway Cottage;
Click for www.stenaline.co.uk or call on 08705 707070. The brochure is also in the concertina file on the shelf in the living room.
The Stena HSS has a shop, cafes, cinema, a New York Nail bar, and a first class section which you can upgrade to if required.
We travelled to Ireland on Sunday 24th August 2008 and found the ferry extremely clean, comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly.
We can recommend the Bacon & Cream Cheese Bagel with coffee for breakfast and we enjoyed a first class meal and a pint of Guinness at the Marine Hotel in Ballycastle, Ireland!
Please note – there was a courtesy bus which took us from the Stranraer Stena check in point to join the ferry, however, on our return, due to the late docking time, this service was not available. It only took us ten minutes to get back to the car but we did not have any youngsters to consider.

Coming soon!
